Director's Note: The prophets were artsy. Deeply expressive, intelligent, and passionate, they spoke in multiple layers of meaning – some of which came to fuller fruition years or even centuries later – and they delivered their messages in poetic form, in symbolically acted-out scenes, and occasionally in extended metaphors lived out in their own lives. The most intensely personal of these metaphors was in the life of the prophet Hosea, who was called to symbolize God's tragically broken relationship with the Israelite people in his own marriage – by marrying a woman he knew would be unfaithful, and loving her anyway, relentlessly. Similarly, The Prophet Project exists in multiple layers of meaning. It follows Hosea and Gomer's story of love, betrayal, and redemption, but like their story, points to something so much bigger: God's relationship with people. It follows Israel's history, and yet points to something still broader: God's love for and pursuit of the entire world. And while it is a love story that encompasses all of history and all of humanity, it points to something still more personal: God's passion for you, as you are, no matter what you have done or what has been done to you.
